Elwood Blues, host of the nationally syndicated “House of Blues Radio Hour,” was recently spotted in the Pittsburgh vicinity driving his battered old Cadillac from clubs to restaurants to record stores. As Ernie, a night shift gas station attendant, reported it, Elwood announced to anyone with ears that he was “on a mission from God in search of Strange Brew.” Luckily, Ernie is a music fan and understood that the venerable bluesman was in search of Pittsburgh’s favorite blues band “Strange Brew,” and did not direct the weary searcher to the nearest liquor store, as others had mistakenly done.
Ernie produced a copy of the band’s new CD “Lost and Broken Hearted” from his personal collection and was able to direct Elwood to the band’s manager, Michael Francis, for more details.
According to Mike, the two men made contact at Fat Fish Blue in Cleveland, where Strange Brew was appearing live before a sell-out crowd. After enjoying the band’s first set, Elwood got to the “mission” part of his visit.

After waxing enthusiastically about “Lost and Broken Hearted,” Elwood explained that he had selected “Lies” from the new CD as his Pick-of-the-Week for HOB’s Radio Hour for the broadcast which premiers on Tuesday, July 5th. On that date and throughout the following weekend, listeners in over 180 markets from coast-to-coast and beyond will have an opportunity to tune in and discover why the busy Mr. Blues went in such dogged pursuit of Strange Brew.
